Cora is over 8 months old now! She is getting very close to crawling and will be on the go soon! She sits on her own extremely reliably, so we don't even put any pillow behind her any more. She is busy, busy, busy and will sit and play with toys and books and whatever she can get her hands on for long periods of time. She has an extremely wide span of reach these days where she leans forward on her two hands and scoots or rolls around to grab what she wants. It's so fun to see what her favorite toys are and what she is interested in (for example, shoe laces, socks and spoons to name a few).
Her hair is growing and getting longer and thicker in the back. She has been eating a lot of solid food and milk lately and seems to be getting quite a bit bigger. On our home scale she was just over 17 pounds when I weighed her the other week. She is very happy for the most part and seems to only get upset when a toy she likes is taken away from her, sometimes when mama leaves, and when she is overtired. Her little pouty face and cry is adorably cute!
She is nursing 5-6 times per day and I'm only pumping twice per day when she is at daycare and sometimes we supplement with formula. She eats mixtures of pureed food 3-4 times per day and is becoming quite a good eater and even picking up Cheerios and putting them in her mouth. She is now eating rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, multi grain cereal, pear, apple, banana, peach, plum, green bean, zucchini, peas, cauliflower, sweet potato, butternut squash, carrot, avocado, and yogurt. And doesn't seem to mind the mixtures we make up (for example, sweet potato-cauliflower-peach-oatmeal or green bean-butternut squash-pear-rice, etc.). It's so much fun to make her baby food and freeze it in ice cube size portions. I'm almost sad thinking of when she will grow out of pureed foods! She also likes drinking water from a glass, but tonight started chugging water out of her sippy cup, which was a first. Something new everyday!
Her daily schedule has been fairly routine lately with usually one wake up per night to eat, which isn't bad, but isn't as great as when she used to sleep for 10-12 hours straight. We're hoping that comes back at some point! She goes to sleep around 8pm, will wake up to eat between 1:30-4:30am, then will wake up for the day between 7-8am. I'm usually only awake for 15-30 minutes changing her, feeding her, and she goes right back to sleep. On the weekends we are sometimes lazy and I'll nap with her during the morning, we'll go on walks, meet up with friends, or adventure into Bozeman to run errands. During the work week I usually get her bottles and food ready, take her to daycare around 8:30-8:45am, and then Neil will pick her up around 5:30pm. She nurses when she gets home, usually naps a bit, then is up for playing in the evening, eating dinner around 7pm, every few nights getting a bath at 7:30pm, and then bed time!
She is doing really well at daycare and seems to love it. She'll eat 2-3 bottles (6-10 ounces) and usually take a morning and afternoon nap, but sometimes it turns into one longer nap (today was 12:30-3:30!). She'll usually eat a snack at 10am and 3pm with lunch at noon and will usually eat almost all the food I send with her. She is usually happily playing when I leave her in the morning and greets us with smiles when we pick her up, so it seems to be working well! And she loves to laugh at the older kids, which is hilarious because neither Neil nor I can make her laugh quite as hard.
This last month we had two special weeks. Over Labor Day we road tripped out to Washington and Orcas Island for a friend's wedding and we stopped to see several old friends along the way, which was a lot of fun. Cora was great in the car and overall did really well! She seemed to love seeing new things, especially all of the animals in the petting zoo we went to in Victoria (pictures of wonder and happiness below), the sand, and all the new people.
Then this last week Coco (Neil's mom, Rita) came out to Big Sky to help take care of Cora while I had some work meetings and an overnight in Jackson. Cora just loves playing, reading, being outside, seeing new things, seeing animals (or really anything that moves), and she is just developing so much right now, so it was great for them to spend the week together. And we appreciated all of the help!
Below are her 8 month old photos, a few from our Washington trip, some of her latest moves, and then loving bath time. What a fun girl!
