35 weeks and 1 cm dilated!

Today has been so much fun watching Neil assemble some of the baby stuff!  He was so excited about the BOB stroller and as he discovered more of the features he was more and more excited.  Then after a day of Christmas shopping in town he came home and said, "Ok, what other baby things can I put together?!"  Currently as I'm typing this he is putting together the Snug-a-Monkey swing.  He says, "This looks kinda nice!"  We played all the music options and checked out all that it can do.  We just hope this baby girl likes it too!

So on Friday I had my 35 week appointment.  The appointments weren't supposed to go to weekly until after 36 weeks, but since my blood pressure had been slightly elevated at the 34 week appointment she had asked me to come in this week.  Of course since that day that my blood pressure was reading at 130/92, every day it has been more normal at 120/85 to 114/75 or so.  I have been feeling a lot of Braxton Hicks contractions (not painful, but sometimes slightly uncomfortable) and so I was looking forward to going in to ask about that.  It's funny that it used to feel like forever between monthly visits and now it feels like forever between weekly visits!  My appointment was scheduled for 2:30pm and around 10:30am the office called saying that Cassie had one patient in Labor and Delivery and another just called that she was coming in, so she might have to cancel my appointment.  Of course I wanted to go in and make sure everything was going alright with me, but it also felt kind of silly when there are two women in labor about to have their babies.  I guess they might be slightly more important right now.  I called back around 1pm to check in and they said to come on in, that one of the babies had been born and the other wouldn't come for a bit, so she would be able to see me in between.

Neil was busy at work and not able to come to this appointment, which I was totally fine with.  I had made an eye appointment afterwards and didn't want him waiting around for me anyways.  Cassie had me come in and do the normal urine sample and get weighed.  She told me that my blood work last week had come back totally normal and there's still no protein in my urine and with my normal blood pressure readings, no swelling, and no headaches or vision problems, she's not concerned at all at this time.  I told her about the contractions and that they happen quite frequently...I had counted around 10 in the 1 hour drive to the hospital.  She decided to check me out to see where things were at, which I figured would make me feel better too, just to know.  It turns out that I was dilated 1 cm and 50% effaced!  I don't know if that made me feel better, but it definitely made me feel more nervous!  She also said that our baby girl's head is right up against my cervix and she's getting ready.  Cassie also told me that women often walk around at 4 cm for weeks, so it doesn't necessarily mean she will come early at all.  But if I went into labor tomorrow they wouldn't stop it.  When I asked how big she was right now, Cassie's best guess was  six or six and a half pounds, which seems maybe a little bigger than I was thinking, but I guess if she was born early she'd be a good weight hopefully.  I called Neil afterwards and told him all about the appointment.  Later that evening when we were home I said, "She could feel her head!  That just made it so much more real for me."  Neil said, "That made it so much more real for me and I wasn't even there!"

Yep, definitely feeling more nervous.  I'm really going to have to do this!  And it's going to hurt!  And it could happen any day or in 6 weeks!  And then our baby girl will be here!  Crazy.  I do hope that she waits until at least after New Year's when she is full term (and Neil is not insanely busy at the ski resort), but 40 weeks would be even better when she is nice and plump and super healthy.  But there is no telling what will happen!  I guess I'll just keep feeling these contractions until they eventually get painful or my water breaks or something.  And then we'll go to the hospital.  Nothing to do but relax, get baby stuff ready, and sleep as much as we can while we can.  Just trying to enjoy the baby movements and pregnancy and not get it in my head that she'll be here early when it could still be another 5 or more weeks.
